HIV-Infected Children Have the Right of Existence in Classroom

Education, just the same as law, must put every children to an equal level. There should not be segregation of who can have education. Education is believed to not differentiate children’s background such as social status, skin color, religion, ethnicity, race, sex, nationality, language and particular life condition. This is also applied in classroom, including children who are with HIV. They also must be put in classroom just like other students due to human rights and misconception of HIV.

Firstly, human rights. Every child is born with human rights. Human rights are rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. It includes the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression, the right to work and education.  Everyone is entitled to these rights, without discrimination. In classroom, especially, children with HIV must be put together with other students who are considered as normal. This is how education plays role to make no differentiation among children and to evoke awareness of human rights. When there is awareness of human rights, children with HIV will feel they are also seen as humans and are still considering as the part of society. This kind of situation will bring more good than harms to society. For instance, HIV-infected children will be away from bad thoughts which can make their conditions even worsen. In addition, when human rights are present the children will also be encourage to live just like any normal child and be themselves because they have confident in life. Here, human rights have a very vital influence on children with HIV, when there is awareness of their rights then there will also good conditions will happen.

Another reason why children with HIV must be put in classroom is misconception of people of the spreading of the HIV. There has been a stigma on society that children with HIV is dangerous because they can spread the virus to other people if they touch, sneeze, sharing things, and cough. However, this is not right since the HIV is a sexual transmitted disease. In the other words, someone cannot be transmitted the virus, unless she/he does an intercourse with the one who infected by HIV. So, for no reason children with HIV are not allowed to be together with other students in classroom.

All in all, education shall not differentiate any children for their disability or certain health conditions because education is for every children. Not even in classroom, every child has the same right to be put in classroom, including children with HIV. They shall be put in classroom because of human rights and the misunderstanding of the spread of the disease that they have. There will be good things happen when there is awareness for human rights and when people comprehend HIV.
