Things I need to do to improve my wiriting skills

What's writing?

Writing, as it defines by wikipedia, is a medium of human communication that represents language and emotion with signs and symbols. This is also sort of productive skill along with speaking because learners doing these to produce language. Writing requires ideas, strategies, and language competence, such as vocabulary and structure, for producing  writing.

Me and writing

It has been almost two years now since I entered the University. I have got some experience during my time as student. One of them is experience in learning. I mean here the courses. From my view, some of them are difficult but others are seemingly mediocre. Writing, for example, is one of the difficult courses. I would rather talking for hours than writing even only for minutes. When I speak I can talk about anything or put out what in my mind without even think about structure, choices of words, punctuation too much. In contrast, when I write I have to deal with them (structure, choices of words, punctuation,etc) and to fully understand them. Therefore writing is, from my perspective, such a tough thing to do.

What I should do to improve my writing

Actually, my writing skills are still not good enough. Especially as a university student which is required to be able to write academically . I have many weaknesses in writing. It is hard to me to deal with writing. I do not know for sure what is the obstacles. I will spend quite long time in writing process. Maybe it is because I have only some vocabulary stored in my mind or I have difficulties in elaborating one thing to another.

Fortunately, I know where to start. I must start it from reading. Maybe some of people will think that it is not how it works. I should start it from writing by doing something which has correlation to writing. Okay, that is true. But what I believe is also true. As far as I know, many famous writers also start from that, reading. They read a lot to gain wider knowledge and to get many information. After they read they have the information stored in their mind. And when they want to write something, they can easily pour their thoughts into their writings. 

By reading, we are not only gaining the information but also getting an understanding of reading components such as vocabulary, punctuation, spelling, phrase, etc. Those components can improve our ability in writing if we comprehend them all. Punctuation, for example, can be found in both writing and reading. It is also the vital component for both of them. The other is vocabulary. We know that readings consist of words and phrases which are most known as vocabulary. Thus, by reading a lot we can enrich our vocabulary and stuff and it will, for sure, improve our ability in writing. 

After all, I also believe that it is important to do practice. Nothing can be done if we never practice it at all. Starting from now, I have to read and write as many as possible. Other thing which is also important is sharing. We need our writing to be assessed by someone which is better than us. By doing this we can identify our mistakes or errors in our writings and make it better in future.
